For years there was a need for a new shelter building - the old building was falling apart, too small, and the need for additional space just continued to grow. The Board of Directors and staff drew up our own plans and started fund raising. One project after another, but it wasn't until the Houlton Rotary granted $5000 toward engineering costs, and Leland Ludwig III and Margaret Ludwig donated a very large and generous gift, that we were able to really reach out and touch this dream.
With the hard work and dedication of the board, financial support from our friends, including those shown below, and generous bequests from Richard Lawlis and Evelyn Lawry, two thirds of the required funding was in hand. Katahdin Trust financed the rest and we appreciate their belief in our vision, as well as your faith and trust and heart felt support.
The following is a list of special friends who have financially supported the shelter through the purchase of Tiles. These tiles are mounted and displayed in the lobby and in various places throughout the shelter in honor and memory of those who contributed and/or family members or pets. If you have contributed and don't see your name on the list, please contact me at houltonanimalshelter@gmail.com so we can make a correction.
Tiles can still be purchased at the Shelter - the cost of a tile is $50.00 and all income from tile sales goes to help retire our mortgage debt. Our heartfelt thanks to Florence Hardy for making these beautiful tiles for us to display.
